Tinubu And APC Close Defence In Peter Obi Suit Against Tinubu’s Presidential Election Victory
President Bola Tinubu and his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), have closed their defence in Peter Obi’s suit challenging Mr Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja.
This is coming after Peter Obi, Labour Party Presidential candidate finished presenting his own case on 23 June.
Lawyers to President Tinubu and the APC who called Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the new senate leader as their star witness informed the court that they have established their case through the witness and do not need to call another witness in the matter.
The witness who is a practicing Attorney in the United States of America and currently the Majority Leader of the Senate, in his evidence told the court that there is no record of criminal proceedings or conviction of Senator Bola Tinubu in the United States of America.
Senator Bamidele in his witness deposition further told the court that their is a shortfall of ten thousand, nine hundred and twenty-nine votes in the votes recorded for Senator Bola Tinubu in Kano state.
Counsel to Peter Obi, Livy Uzoukwu spoke to journalists after the proceeding.
Mr Tinubu, the APC and Nigeria’s electoral commission, INEC, who are respondents in the suit, have closed their defence, marking the end of the trial.
It also sets the case for its next phase, which is exchanging final written and addresses among parties, and a day for closing arguments.
