UK EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER LOW LEVEL OF WOMEN INVOLVEMENT IN POLITICS.

British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing is expressing concern over the low level of Women involvement in politics.

She made this known in Abuja at a press briefing ahead of next week’s general election.

Laing expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness of INEC and other stakeholders saying that the news of electoral law and the deployment of BVAS was a pointer to her confidence on the process so far.

She explained that based on her meeting with the Inspector General of Police and other head of security agencies, they have shown commitment towards ensuring protection for everyone during and after the elections.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria also said she was pleased with the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System BVAS, but worried about voters suppression which she believed the security agencies would tackle.
